If you want to know what's hot in formalwear, just look to the stars. Movie stars, that is. Experts say the best prediction of what grooms and their groomsmen will be wearing down the aisle can be found on the backs of those walking the red carpet on Emmy and Oscar nights.

Women lead, men follow. The formalwear of the men in a wedding party, including the ring bearer, should complement the dresses of the females they're escorting. If the bride's dress is white, the groom's shirt also should be white. If her dress is cream or off-white, his shirt should be ivory. Local tux shops advise taking a swatch of material from the bridesmaids' dresses to coordinate the menswear.

You can never go wrong with a classic. At one recent Columbus wedding, the bride wore a traditional-style dress with long white gloves. To complement her ensemble, the groom was outfitted in crisp black tails with a white pique shirt and vest. Together, the couple was stunning.

Commit to be fit. Though nearly always rented, a tuxedo ensemble should look as if it is a gentleman's own. The jacket should fit comfortably and button without straining the fabric. The bottoms of the trousers should break just slightly at the shoes. The shirt should allow a full range of comfortable motion, and a half-inch of cuff should show from the jacket sleeve.
