Nearly 300 years ago, the English playwright George Lillo wrote, "There's sure no passion in the human soul but finds its food in music." His words are never truer than on your wedding day. But determining the right selection for each moment requires planning and coordination.

High notes. The best music for the ceremony is both majestic and meditative. Many classical pieces are tailor-made for the event. Wagner's Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin ("Here Comes the Bride") typically signals the bride's walk down the aisle, and Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" often is the recessional music. Other favorites during the ceremony include Handel's "Water Music," Pachelbel's "Canon in D" and Clark's "Trumpet Voluntary."

Get the party started. The reception calls for music that's entirely different, shifting from somber to spirited, from reverent to rock-and-roll. Receptions often start with the grand entrance of the wedding party, with music tailored to the personalities and interests of the bride and groom—from "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" to "Looney Tunes."

Live or Memorex? You can choose a live band or a deejay service to provide the music. Deejays are likely to be less expensive, and most have huge CD collections for a wide variety of tunes. Bands offer the warmth, energy and spontaneity of live music, and can adjust a song to the mood of the crowd.
