Martha Stewart has taken her share of hits, but no one's complaining about her influence on wedding flowers. She helped usher in the trend toward beautiful, natural-looking handheld bouquets tied up with elegant silk ribbons. The wedding bouquets and flower arrangements should reflect your personal style, and will add beauty, color and fragrance to every stage of the day.

Color your world. While all-white bouquets are always a classic choice, many Central Ohio brides are opting for vibrant bouquets of orange, peach, yellow and pink. At one recent Columbus wedding, the bridesmaids carried bright-orange and hot-pink gerbera daisies on denim-blue dresses for a stunning look. Popular flowers include hydrangeas, gerbera daisies, mini calla lilies and that perennial favorite, roses.
Petal pushers. Select a florist at least six to eight months before your wedding; a year in advance is better if your wedding date is a holiday or in the busy summer wedding season. The trick is to reserve your florist early, then commit to specific blooms later, after you've chosen your ceremony and reception sites and know the color and style of the bridesmaids' dresses.
Flower power doesn't come cheap. Most brides budget a fairly generous amount for their bouquets. Your entire order could total anywhere from $300 to $3,000, depending on how many and what flowers are chosen. A good florist, though, can work within a budget and still design beautiful arrangements.
Other flower topics often covered in Columbus Bride:
Handheld and cascading bouquets
Keeping the flowers fresh
Coordinating the wedding party's bouquets and corsages
Altar and table arrangements
Silk flowers
Floral preservation
