Yes, it's one of the happiest days of your life. But weddings also can be harrowing experiences. • The wedding planner. Hiring a wedding coordinator doesn't mean giving up control over your wedding; it just means giving up worrying about all the details. You can hire a consultant to plan the whole affair from start to finish, to pitch in during the last few months of the planning process or to help coordinate events only on the wedding day itself.
• Insider info. Experts are likely to have inside knowledge of the wedding business that can be a boon to brides who don't even know where to begin. Many consultants have long-standing relationships with photographers, caterers and florists whose work—and prices—they're already familiar with. Some vendors may even throw in extras, such as free delivery, for couples working through a consultant they know.
• Travel guides. In addition to planning the wedding, consultants could organize activities for guests, particularly if you'd like a wedding that doubles as a reunion weekend. Events might include a barbecue cookout the day before the wedding, sightseeing trolley tours of German Village or trips to the Columbus Zoo.
